Officially the Kyrgyz Republic, written references of our lands go back more than 2,000 years.
Our mountainous terrain has always provided isolation, but not always independence. We are a land of clans at the centre of several great civilisations that has endured foreign domination. Following the demise of the Soviet Union when we were the first to declare independence, we became a truly independent nation.
Landlocked and 95% mountainous, the country is stunningly beautiful. Summer in the south is sub-tropical and in the north temperate. However, some mountain regions can be polar in the winter.
With a population approaching 7 million 75% are ethnic Kyrgyz with 4o other ethnicities making up the balance. A true melting pot.
